We’ve Got It Going CON – Costume Ideas

Theme #4

The final theme has ARRIVED, people!  It’s here!  It’s FABULOUS!!!!!

To say that I’m excited about this theme night is putting it lightly.  Guys, we have 4 solid, distinct themes…and we have over 2.5 months to plan for them.  This is going to be amazing – if you let it.

Granted, I’m happy to say that I saw less complaining about this one.  In fact, I’ve seen quite a few people saying that they’re already set for this one.  Apparently, the fandom is FULL of cosplayers!  Who knew?!

For those of you who don’t have a cape and tights already hanging in your closet, I have some ideas for you.  As with the 90’s and High School themes, I’ll be breaking this one out into categories.  Also, may I make the suggestion to do a gender reversal…sexy female Loki NEEDS to be a thing!

So…lets get down to business!

  • Superman
  • Super Girl {Caution…you will NOT be the only one!
  • Batman
  • Robin
  • Wolverine
  • Wonder Woman {Caution…you will NOT be the only one!  I’ve seen that several of you are jonesing for a formal night.  If you didn’t take the White Party as your chance to do that, then come as Wonder Woman in her iconic blue evening gown – grab a fake sword and you get to be fancy.  You’re also pretty likely to stand out in this one.}
  • Black Panther
  • Thor
  • The Hulk
  • Lady Hulk
  • Dr. Strange
  • Captain America
  • Black Widow
  • Luke Cage

  • In a wheelchair?  Come as a character from Game of Thrones sitting on the Iron Throne.  {My personal favorite is the one seen HERE!}
  • Jon Snow from Game of Thrones – this could be a fun one for a gender flip – who’s to say that you can’t be the Queen of The North
  • Daenarys from Game of Thrones…get you a blonde wig and a Shoulder Dragon and you’re golden, honey!

  • Disney Princesses as warriors
  • Superheroes as Disney Princesses

And don’t forget, you could always go as…SUPER FAN!

These are just a few ideas to hopefully help you get your juices flowing.

For this one, I recommend going with something that’s easily recognizable and doesn’t need an explanation.  Also, remember – Comic Con is a great opportunity to flip some of these costumes on their heads by mixing them with different genres.  Steampunk, 20th century era {20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, etc…}, ancient greek or roman versions {i.e. the toga version}, Victorian, or Futuristic spins on any of these costumes could make them truly unique.

As with the others, Pinterest could be your best friend!  Let those creative juices flow!  Reach out to fellow fans who have experience cosplaying.  They may be willing to help you.  I also want to remind you – get started on this as early as you can and do a practice run to make sure that you can move in your costume or, as is the case with my costume, breathe in your corset, lol.  Also, an idea you had may need some tweaks or you may need to go back to the drawing board {in the case of a bad fit or costs of an idea being higher than you anticipated}.  Give yourself time to make those changes with as little stress as possible.

As I mentioned in last Thursday’s Live vlog, remember that this is the last deck party. Be sure to consider how you’re going to get your costume off of the boat without your luggage if you opt to have Carnival take it the night of the 6th.  At the time of this posting, I’m still working on the edit of that vlog, but I will be uploading the clip talking about that in more detail once it’s done.

Millennium White Night – Costume Ideas

Theme #3

Ok – I’ll admit it.  This one was a challenge in its simplicity.  I’m a complex thinker.  I don’t mean that as in ‘I think I’m Aristotle’ or anything.  I mean it as in ‘I make EVERYTHING harder by over-thinking’.  I see that many of you have that same problem.  For this one, I had to take a moment and think.  When the theme was first announced, I flipped out.  Millennium is my favorite of the Boys’ albums and this party is just going to be insane.  I can feel it in m’bones! So, I was pulling into my office parking lot and did a little jig in the driver’s seat as I put my car in park.  Then…I started thinking.  ‘Now what do I do?!’

I came up with an idea.  Then I got with a couple of friends and fleshed it out a little further and it turned into something epic!  I won’t share what it is because – like I said in last night’s vlog – I don’t want to have to cut a b*tch for showing up in my costume.

I thought I was done.  And then I decided to do a blog post for the other 2 themes.  And then you guys started reaching out to me for ideas for this one.  And then, all I could think – literally on a constant loop – was, ‘Well, f*ck!’

But then, I started thinking again…and here’s what I came up with!

Want to go 1999 cute?  Ok…white flair jeans {if you can find them – if you can’t, get you some capri pants!  They’re back in style, stores are just being slick and calling them ‘crops’ for 2018, lolz.}, chunky white wedge sandals, a white tube top, and some white butterfly clips.  BOOM.  Done.  Mission Accomplished.  Or, also very ’99 – a white spaghetti strap slip dress and heeled sandals.  You could find some baggy white pants and a white wife beater – pair those with some white sneakers and a white baseball cap and you’d basically be fit to be one of the Boys in ’99.

Or, say you’re like me and you don’t want to be hemmed in by having to stick to an ‘era’. Guys…just do what I’m planning to do and show up cute AF in all white!  You can even break up your white with some denims, creams, ivory, greys, and metallics {gold and silver}.

NEWSFLASH!  There aren’t ACTUALLY any rules!  No one’s going to not let you into the party because you’re not draped from head to toe in solid white!  With that in mind, here are some of my favorite looks that I came come across while looking for inspiration.

Important Note:  Everything I’ve pulled for this is 100% *my* style, so I get that it may not be for everyone.  That being said, I tried to pick an array of looks, some more formal and some more casual to appease different tastes.  Hope this helps!

High School Night – Costume Ideas

Theme #1.jpg

As promised in last night’s vlog, I will be working on some ideas for the theme nights for those of you who are struggling to come up with something or just need a seed of inspiration to grow your own concepts!  First up – High School Night.

I stated in a previous vlog that *I think* you should focus on the stereotypes for this theme and not so much on a time or era.  So, let’s talk stereotypes first!

Jock:

  • Football Star
  • Basketball Star
  • Soccer Player
  • Wrestler
  • Track Star
  • Swim Team {Group Costume Idea – show up in your swim suits and some professional swim gear!}
  • Gymnast
  • Baseball Star

School Spirit:

  • Mascot {Find a Furry Costume…don’t make it weird – or totally DO make it weird, lol!}
  • Major/Majorette
  • Color Guard
  • Dance Team Member
  • Cheerleader

Random Stereotypes:

  • Debate Club Kid
  • General Nerd Costume
  • Goth Kid
  • Punk Kid
  • School Slut
  • School Principal
  • Sexy Librarian
  • School Girl
  • Theater Kid
  • Glee Club Kid

Popularity Contest:

  • Prom Queen/King
  • Homecoming Queen/King
  • Class President
  • The It Girl/Boy {Come as the center of the high school universe – get a sash or something.}
  • The Mean Girl/Boy {Obviously, you could just show up cute and keep a Stank Face the whole night.  Or, you could make a t-shirt that says “So, you think you’re really pretty?” on the front and “So, you agree?” on the back.  Or some other iconic quote.}

Superlatives:

  • Most-Likely to Succeed {This could be as complex as your want to make it – or you could make a crown or something that just says ‘Most-Likely to Succeed’.}
  • Class Clown {Show up as a clown in a school-girl outfit…I mean, it’s either going to be amazing or terrifying.  Either way, it’ll probably be awesome!}
  • Most-Likely to Become President
  • Most-Likely to Become Internet Famous {Show up with an Instagram square or make it part of your costume – or show up as a Facebook Like/YouTube Subscription Request!}

Hollywood High School Inspiration:

  • Harry Potter
  • Easy A
  • The Breakfast Club
  • Grease
  • Twilight {Go as a Cullen…or Bella!}
  • Superbad
  • Clueless {Yes, this one WILL be offered as an option for 90’s Night…wanna fight about it?}
  • Fast Times at Ridgemont High
  • Napoleon Dynamite
  • Bring It On
  • Election
  • She’s All That
  • Never Been Kissed
  • Carrie {for OBVIOUS reasons!}

*****If you’ll actually be MAKING your costume or sending anything off to have it professionally made, may I recommend actually repping Backstreet High School?

Other than Clueless, I’d like to point out {YET AGAIN} that High School and 90’s are NOT the same party.

Pissed About The Deck Party Themes?

I’ve seen a TON of complaining from cruisers about this year’s themes so far.  For those who don’t know, the themes that have been released so far are:

  1.  Fast Times at Backstreet High
  2. The 90’s
  3. Millennium Night {All White}

There will be one more theme announced {hopefully next Thursday}.  You’d think people would be thrilled.  Now the planning can really begin.  It’s time to get excited, right?  Apparently, not all of us feel that way.  🤷🏽‍♀️

Guys…why all the hate?!  Personally, I think these are all great themes.  I covered, in one of my previous vlogs, a comparison of the first 2.  A lot of people seemed to not see a difference between the High School and 90’s themes.  Maybe I’m just a youngin’, because I graduated high school in 2005 – so high school does not = 90’s to me.  Like I said in that video, for the high school party it will probably be best to stick to the stereotypes for your costumes {I.E.:  Jock, Cheerleader, Bookworm, etc…}.

For 90’s Night, focus on the pop culture of the 90’s.  This area is RICH with options – you could go as people, places, things, you name it!  For more on that, watch that clip HERE.

For the All White Millennium theme…guys!  Come ON!  This is going to be GREAT.  First of all, all 5 BSB in all white?  Especially if they’re all tan, they’re going to look AMAZING!  So, there’s that!  But you have SO many options.  Yes, all of those options will need to be in white, but you can do SO MUCH!

At the time of this writing, the theme hasn’t even been out for 3 hours and the amount of bitching has been EXTREME.  You haven’t even given yourself enough time to make an attempt at thinking creatively!  I spent about 30 minutes just letting my wheels turn, put my head together with a couple of friends, and violá – we have our costumes pretty much fleshed out.  {Don’t ask what we’re doing for any of the themes – it’s a surprise💁🏽‍♀️}

Anyway – try to practice positive thinking and just marinate on the themes if you feel like you’re struggling.  Pinterest could be your best friend for this, you guys!  I’ve found a ton of inspiration there!

Still feeling ‘meh’ or pissy about it?  Try this trick:  Tell a fan who CAN’T go on the cruise about how disappointed you are with the themes.  Then get some perspective and remember just how very blessed you are to be able to go to FOUR parties with the Backstreet Boys!  With that in mind, who really gives a wild f*ck about what the themes are?!  🤗

But…like I’ve said – I’m not here to tell y’all how to live your lives.  You want to be salty?  STAY SALTY, THEN. 😒

All my love,

Kim😘

Why I’m A Fan & Always Will Be (for non-fans)

I posted this to my personal Facebook last week, because I was getting a lot of questions from non-fan friends about why I love the Boys so much.  I’ve since created the BSB Cruise Vlog Facebook page so I’m not inundating them, but I felt like I should share this.

A note to my non-Backstreet friends about my social media accounts:

No, it’s not going to be all Backstreet all the time. No, I won’t be doing Facebook Live vlogs every other day until the end of days. No, my Instagram and Twitter are not going to be forever dedicated to the Backstreet Boys. This is something different I’m doing leading up to this year’s cruise, which will be in early May. I already have a ton of fan friends here on FB and communicating with them was the primary reason I even set up an Insta/Twitter in the first place. I was too lazy to start a vlog and build a following when I basically already had one if that makes sense. So – rest assured that this not permanent.

I’ve had a few of you {non-BSB fans} ask me why I love them so much. I’ve touched on it briefly, but I’ve never really been specific – so here it is. In middle school, during the height of their success, I was at a super low point in my life. I was learning a lot of truth about the situation with my mom, feeling like I wasn’t good enough because she’d basically thrown me away in favor of her drug addiction. Top that off with being a pre-teen girl who was going through those changes without a steady female figure in her life…and yeah. It was rough. Like, really rough.

I tried to commit suicide twice between the ages of 11 and 13.

During those years, the Backstreet Boys, their music, and the fandom were literally the only bright spot in my life. It was the ONE thing that I knew I could turn to and always find some kind of Happiness in it. Neither the Boys nor the other fans I met because of them ever judged me. Looking forward to album releases, concerts, and TV appearances kept me going.

For those of you who’ve been lucky enough to never deal with depression or to be a part of a fandom, you may not understand either or both of those concepts. Some of you might still think that this is all ‘pretty lame’. As to the latter, IDGAF. Obviously, lol.

So, why I am still a fan at almost 31 years old? I see them, and it’s not just nostalgia for the 90’s. It evokes a feeling of Home – not as in ‘home like a place’ but ‘home like a safety net’. Those 5 men saved my life and they’ll never know it. So part of it is a sense of loyalty. I’ll be the first to admit that not every song is Grammy-worthy {I’m actually not a big fan of their biggest hit, I Want It That Way}. That being said, it’s not just about the music. There are a lot of things and nuances about being a Backstreet Fan that you would have to be a fan to truly understand.

Going on these cruises, for me, is like going to a Family Reunion. It’s like a tune up for my heart and an infusion of pure, unadulterated joy into my life. They live in my heart because I would NOT be here today if it weren’t for them. I’m the Kim you all know and love {maybe, lol} because they kept me alive long enough to get through that period of my life to the better days that came after.

You don’t have to get it – but there it is.

“I’ll be The One
Who will make all your sorrows undone
I’ll be the light
When you feel like there’s no where to run”

-Kim

10 Reasons Not To Fly In on Sail Away Day

As I covered in yesterday’s Live Vlog {which you can watch HERE}, I’ve seen that a number of cruisers are contemplating arriving in Miami on the morning of sail away.  To those fans, I say this:  DON’T DO IT!  If my frantic arm-flailing and screaming are not convincing enough, here’s 10 reasons why you should not arrive on the day we set sail:

  1.  You Might Miss Your Flight:  You’re probably going to have to catch an early flight.  What if you oversleep?!  You’ll catch some extra shut eye 😒…but you’ll likely miss the boat!
  2. Your Flight Might Be Delayed:  Worst case – you miss the boat.  Best case – you’re racing across one of the busiest cities in the country to get to the busiest cruise port in the world in time to catch a ship with your 5 favorite men on board.  That’s going to be stressful.  Even if you DO make it, you’re going to arrive stressed, likely aggravated, and probably sweaty {because…Miami in May}.  This would be a TERRIBLE way to start your trip!
  3. You’ll Miss The Pre-Cruise Festivities That The Boys May Do:  Typically, the night before a U.S.-based cruise has SOME kind of event featuring one, some, or all 5 of the Boys.  If you’re not in Miami, then you’re definitely going to miss out!
  4. You’ll Miss The Pre-Cruise Festivities That Fans Have Planned:  Whether the Boys do something or not, a lot of fan groups are planning pre-cruise get-togethers for the night before.  These can be great opportunities for newbies and vets alike to mingle without the Boys.  No hair-pulling, pushing, shoving, or general Backstreet-induced hysteria – just fans being nice to each other.
  5. You’ll Likely Miss Out on That Last Good Night’s Sleep Before The Cruise:  They’re not kidding, guys!  There’s no sleeping on these cruises…well…I mean, yeah – you’ll sleep.  You might even catch a nap here and there {I do!}.  But as far as that quality sleep you’re used to in your own bed for 8 blissful hours?  Yeah, kiss that idea goodbye!  Rest up so that you won’t be a sleep-deprived zombie midway through day 2.  It’ll be easier to do that if the bed you’re sleeping in is in Miami!  😴💅🏽
  6. You’ll Be Commuting Straight From The Airport to The Cruise Port…NO THANKS:  Do you REALLY want to have spend the morning rushing through an airport just to have to go to another travel-y type place where you might be rushing if you’re late?  Remember, you have to de-plane at the airport, get your luggage, and get your transport at the airport to the port.  THEN, when you arrive at the port, you have to get your luggage to the people who’ll take it onto the ship for you and THEN go through customs, and THEN check in with Carnival, and THEN get your wristband from Rose Tours.  Even typing this out has me like, ‘Dis tew much!’
  7. You Might Miss Watching The Boys Board the Ship:  There’s a lot of fanfare {pun TOTALLY intended} for the Boys’ arrival to the cruise terminal and their boarding of the ship.  They board before everyone else and let me be clear:  If you’re not already hyped…They.  Will.  Get.  You.  Hyped.  Are you actually going to chance missing that?!
  8. You Might Not Get to Spend Time Exploring The Ship Before Things Kick Off:  This is something I ALWAYS like to do before the safety briefing takes place.  I like to get familiar with where everything is and where the easiest/fastest ways to get to certain areas are.  This is a lot easier to do without the pressure of having to make it to an event or to where you’ve just heard that a specific Boy might be hanging out.  Take this time to just chill and pretend like this is a vacation and not a Backstreet Business Trip – can’t do that if you don’t get there in time.
  9. You Could Miss The Chance to Pre-Game On Board:  Before the ship sails away, some of the bars will probably be open.  If you want to ‘get loose’ and sip on a little somthin’, this may be a great time.
  10. If You Were Planning To Decorate Your Door Before Sail Away, You Might Lose Valuable Time To Do That:  Sure, there will be some free time here and there after we depart, but it can be hard to come by.  Plus, it’s going to be a mad house in the hallways.  Not to mention that while you’re decorating your door after the cruise is well underway, your favorite Boy could be meandering in the halls just waiting to be discovered!  🤦🏽‍♀️

So…like…DON’T DO IT!
